June to October are the rainy season on the Pacific side, but these are the best months for NATURE LOVERS to visit. The forests and the beaches on the Caribbean side and the Arenal Volcano are spectacular because the skies are so clear.

Puerto Viejo is a long sandy beach, world known for the waves. Great for surfers! Puerto Viejo offers a variety of discos and restaurants. It's a great place for diving, snorkeling, horse back riding and other activities.Cahuita was declared National Park in 1970. Cahuita is where the the beach meets the forest. You will find a variety of forests and swamps, great for nature lovers. Great for hiking, diving and exploring!
Manzanillo is not as well known by tourists. Everything here is very typical of the country, like the food and hotels. It's great for those who want to experience a little of the Costarican culture! There are many other great beaches nearby, so you can go beach hopping!
On the Pacific side we recommend:
Papagayo Gulf has beautiful ocean views, romantic sunsets and great resorts. Papagayo Gulf has an abundant tropical life that surrounds the coast. It is great for bird watching, swimming, long walks on the beach and sunbathing.
Flamingo Beach is famous for the International Sport Fishing Tournament, held in Flamingo every year. Marlin, tuna, swordfish and snapper can be found off the coast all year around. It's also near Santa Rosa National Park and Palo Verde Natural Reserve.
Conchal is not an ordinary sandy beach. Instead of sand, you will find millions and millions of tiny seashells covering the coast. It is not rough on the feet, and is actually a great unique experience. The water is very clear and is filled with exotic fish, turtles, rays, etc. Great for snorkeling and divers, this is one of the most beautiful beaches in the country.
Tamarindo is one of the most popular beaches, great for sport fishing, surfing, snorkeling, kayaking and other activities. In Tamarindo National Wildlife Refuge you can enjoy hiking trails through the forest and listen to the monkeys, wild pigs and other animals that live there.
Samara's shallow waters make it great for swimming and snorkeling at the offshore coral reef. This is a wonderful spot for the whole family to enjoy. The waters are calm and it is terrific for horse back riding. You will find great hotels and restaurants in this area.
Jaco is only 2 hours from San Jose, and is the most popular beach for backpackers, surfers and tourists. You will find a wide range of hotels and all types of cuisine in the restaurants.
Manuel Antonio is one of the most popular National Parks in the country because of the breathtaking beaches, and is also mentioned in the famous book "1000 Places To See Before You Die". The abundance in flora and fauna, great hiking, bird watching and surfing make it a truly memorable experience!
